Opening: Tuesday 19th May 6-9pm 2009 Exhibition dates: 20th May - 20th June 2009 "Sometimes doing something poetic can become political and sometimes doing something political can become poetic" [Francis Alÿs, The Artist, 2005] From an idea to its realization, the voice of art interacts with our everyday life with the purpose of supporting "Social Activism". These works have emerged as from an endeavour to voice over and fill the cultural and linguistic gap between the social, political and economic issues and a labyrinth of human rights issues. By the integration of unconventional material, raising questions of material value, substance over style, contamination, reinvention, recycling, and sustainability the works are delightful and challenging. The works range from jewellery to sculptures, paintings to applied art all carrying the weight of socio-politcal justice. "Social Activism" is curated by Delva Simunovic and influenced by Francis Alÿs.
